NASA Holds Briefing With First Female Station Commander and Crew

HOUSTON - The next visitors to the International Space Station will discuss their upcoming flight during a news conference at 2 p.m. CDT Monday, July 23. The Expedition 16 crew includes Commander Peggy Whitson, the first female to lead a long-duration spaceflight.

The news conference from NASA's Johnson Space Center, Houston, will be broadcast live on NASA Television with questions taken from media at other NASA facilities. Reporters should call their local NASA center to confirm its participation in the event.

In October, Whitson, Expedition 16 Flight Engineer Yuri Malenchenko and spaceflight participant Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, who is from Malaysia, will launch on a Soyuz spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Shukor is flying under an agreement with Russia. Shukor will return to Earth with Expedition 15 crew members Fyodor Yurchikhin and Oleg Kotov after nine days aboard the station.

During their six months in space, veterans Whitson and Malenchenko will be joined by Expedition 16 flight engineers Dan Tani, Leopold Eyharts of the European Space Agency and Garrett Reisman.

After Monday's news conference, Expedition 16 crew members will be available for round-robin interviews. Shukor will take part in the news conference but not the interviews. Media may arrange participation by phone or in person by contacting Gayle Frere at 281-483-8645 by 5 p.m. on July 20.

Tani will begin his work with the expedition during space shuttle Discovery's STS-120 mission, targeted for launch Oct. 20. Space shuttle Atlantis' STS-122 mission, which is targeted for launch Dec. 6, will deliver Eyharts to the outpost and return Tani to Earth. Reisman will head to the station on space shuttle Endeavour's STS-123 mission, targeted for launch Feb. 14, 2008. He will replace Eyharts and return to Earth on a later shuttle flight.

Salam semua,

Dah lama tak update blog, baru nak update tetiba kena Tag plak oleh Topek. Soalannya plak memang susah giler iaitu, "Kisah Ramadhan Yg Tidak Dapat Dilupakan". Adeh, macam exam 'openbook' plak, even masa exam bleh tgk buku pun susah gak nak jawab.

Camana ek nak start, sebenarnya aku takde kisah ramadhan yg betul2 tidak dapat dilupakan, semuanya besh belaka. Cuma aku terkenang ramadhan sewaktu aku belajar di Nilam Puri dulu pada 1995/96.

Dan yg paling aku rindu ialah Masjid Kg Laut, di mana tempat kami selalu berbuka puasa, berterawih, bertadarrus, bertahajjud dan sebagainya. Tambahan pula masjid ni tidak lekang dengan kuliah dan tazkirah oleh tok guru pondok sekitar (bukan seperti negeri lain yang mengharamkan tazkirah/kuliah, bahkan bekas mufti pon dilarang berkhutbah). Sempatlah jugak aku mengaji kitab-kitab tua yg tulisannya susah nak baca. Ada lagi aku simpan hingga sekarang.

Aku juga teringat bila hari khamis (hari terakhir kuliah) aku akan keluar ke bandar Kota Bharu, untuk berbuka di pasar depan stesen bas (ape ntah nama pasar malam tuh). Kegemaranku ialah 'Nasi Kerabu Ayam Percik'. Kemudian aku akan berterawih di Masjid Muhammadi.

Lepas terawih, aku akan merayau sorang-sorang berjalan kaki sekitar bandar KB. Pegi pasar malam, shopping complex, lepak kat tepi sungai dan macam2. Penah aku merayau smp pukul 1 pagi. Kat KB ni tak perlu risau, sbb kadar jenayah kurang, that's why aku rasa selamat jalan kaki smp awal pagi. (Cuba jalan kaki sorang2 kat KL pukul 1 pagi)

Dah rasa boring, then aku balik ke Masjid Muhammadi (aku x balik ke kolej) dan tidur di masjid. Pada bulan puasa ramai orang kat masjid ni untuk beriktikaf dan yang best kebanyakan masjid -masjid di Kelantan tidak dikunci pada waktu malam. Suasana meriah bermula pd pukul 4 pagi, ketika ramai jamaah utk bangun bertahajjud dan solat malam serta bertadarrus. Aku pon turut serta tp penah sekali bila azan subuh, semua orang sibuk bersolat sunat, aku jer tgh syok tidur tak sempat nak bangun...haha

Esoknya selepas Kuliah Jumaat TG Hj Nik Abdul Aziz, dan solat jumaat baru aku balik semula ke kolej.

Dan kenangan paling tidak dilupakan semasa aku belajar di Nilam Puri ialah aku bermimpi berjumpa dengan isteriku, lebih kurang setahun sebelum aku berjumpa dengannya secara real semasa belajar di kampus induk...hehe
